Description
No. 7 John Street is a Grade II listed building located in Stratford-upon-Avon. It is one of two townhouses, with one currently serving as an office and dwelling. The building is constructed of brick with buff headers and is partially painted. It features a slate roof with brick end stacks and a cross-axial stack, designed in a Georgian style.
The structure stands three stories tall and has a four-window range. At the top, there is a modillioned brick cornice. The entrance to No. 7 is centrally located and round-headed, adorned with reeded pilasters and fluted brackets supporting an open pediment. Above the half-glazed door, there is a fanlight with a wrought-iron grille. The windows are fitted with sills and have rubbed brick flat arches, with plate glass horned sashes on the ground floor. No. 22 features three windows, while the first floor has 12-pane sashes and the second floor has 6-pane sashes.
On the left side, there is a segmental-headed entrance with a plain surround, an overlight, and sidelights leading to a fielded-panel door. The rear of the building includes a gabled wing and flanking round-headed stair windows with sashes. This property is part of the early 19th-century development of the northern area of Stratford, known as New Town.
