Description
No. 18 Meneage Street is a town house with a later shop, dating from the early 19th century. It is built of ashlar with granite dressings, featuring segmental arches and a mid-floor string course. The slate roof has projecting front eaves and a shared brick stack on the left, along with a cast-iron ogee gutter. The building has a deep plan that includes a rear wing at right angles, which was likely part of a larger house plan that included No. 16, but was rebuilt in the early 19th century as two separate houses. The structure has three storeys and a two-window range. The original windows are 12-pane hornless sashes, except for a probably slightly later small-paned slightly-bowed oriel window on the first floor to the right, which has a moulded cornice and sidelights. The front is framed by granite rustications at the ground floor, serving as plinths to what were probably giant pilasters, now rendered. The shop front was added in the mid-20th century. The interior has not been inspected.
