Description

No.5, Payton Street is a house dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of brick with buff brick headers, and has a slate roof with brick end stacks. The house is in a Georgian style, with a symmetrical three-window arrangement over two storeys. It has plain eaves. The front door is within a doorcase featuring reeded pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice, and has an overlight above a six-fielded-panel door. The windows have sills and twelve-pane sashes; those on the ground floor are set beneath cambered arches. The brick stacks have round shafts. A late 20th-century addition with a garage door is on the right end. The property forms part of the early 19th century development of the northern part of Stratford, known as New Town.
