Description
21 and 21A Pydar Street is a town house that has been converted into a shop with accommodation above. It dates from the late 18th century. The building features incised stucco on masonry at the first floor and stucco on studwork above, topped by a fairly steep slurried scantle slate roof. Originally a single-depth structure, it was later extended and altered to create a shop in the late 19th or early 20th century.
The building has three storeys and a symmetrical three-window front. The windows are late 19th or early 20th century horned four-pane sashes, with those on the second floor set within architraves. There is a modillioned eaves cornice. The shop front, also from the late 19th or early 20th century, features terminal consoles over pilasters and a sloping fascia with a cornice. To the left of the splayed entrance is a three-light window, with a single light to the right and a doorway at the far right. The interior of the shop was altered in the 20th century, and the first floor has not been inspected.
