Description
Nos. 25 and 26 Gosbeck Road are two cottages built in the late 17th century, originally serving as a farmhouse, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. The cottages are two storeys high and feature a three-cell cross-passage entrance plan, with the right-hand parlour cell designed in a cross-wing form. They are timber framed and plastered, displaying 19th-century herringbone pargetting in large panels. The roof is pantiled, and there is a late 17th-century axial chimney made of red brick with a sawtooth shaft, along with a 19th-century gable chimney on the left side. The bargeboards date from the 19th or 20th century and have undulating soffits. The windows are small-pane casements from the 19th century, with some having been renewed in the mid-20th century. The entrance doors are half-glazed and panelled, with the door to No. 25 located at the cross entry position. Inside, there is some exposed 17th-century framing, including primary braced studwork and square-sectioned floor joists set on edge. The parlour contains a blocked lintelled open fireplace, and the roof features clasped purlins. Additionally, the service cell was extended to the left by one bay in the early 19th century.
