Description

Nos. 1 and 2 on Norwich Road are a pair of cottages built in the 16th century or possibly earlier, originally designed as a single three-cell house. The cottages are one storey high with attics and are constructed from timber framing with plaster, featuring some areas of 17th and 18th-century plasterwork, as well as 19th and 20th-century cable-pattern pargetting in panels. The left-hand gable was rebuilt in the 19th century using flint rubble with brick dressings. The cottages have a thatched roof, which is hipped at the left end, and includes one 19th-century eyebrow casement dormer. There is a 17th or 18th-century axial chimney made of red brick and a 19th-century internal end chimney. At No. 1, there are small-pane casements from the 19th century, while No. 2 features a small-pane sash window from the same period. The entrance door to No. 1 is a boarded door from the 19th century, and No. 2 has a 19th-century panelled half-glazed door with small panes. The interior has not been examined.
