Timber-framed and plastered, largely underbuilt and encased in C19/C20 brickwork now painted. Plaintiled roof with axial chimneys of red brick; at the south gable are original barge boards with carved trailing-leaf ornament; on one side are the initials B over WD, and on the other the date 1637; in the apex is a drop-finial. Mainly C20 small-pane casements and flush entrance doors. Good clasped purlin roof, partly wind-braced. Some plain close-studding exposed internally. A 2-storey C20 extension is attached to the west side. At the north end is a C19 water-tower serving the Shrubland estate; a plain square structure of gault brick, heavily buttressed and with battlemented parapets.
