Description
Nos 78-79 New Road are a pair of estate cottages that were originally built as one house, likely in the late 16th century or early 17th century. The cottages are two storeys tall and have a three-cell plan. They are constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, featuring some 19th-century pargetting in large panels. The roof is pantiled, and there is a 17th-century axial chimney along with two 19th-century end chimneys, all made of red brick. The windows are mainly mid-20th century small-pane casements, and there is a 20th-century half-glazed panelled door, which may be located at the original cross-passage entrance. In the mid-19th century, a brick and pantiled lean-to extension was added to both ends of the building when it was divided into cottages. The interior has not been examined.
