Description
This is a pair of cottages located immediately north of The Hemp Sheaf, occupied by Mr. Pearl and Mr. Browning. They date from the early to mid-18th century and are constructed with a timber frame, roughcast render, and a thatched roof. The cottages are two storeys tall and feature four windows, which are 20th-century metal casements with small panes, along with 20th-century doors. There is a heavy central chimney stack and smaller gable stacks, all rendered over. The cottages were purpose-built as a handed pair, with the left cottage remaining relatively unaltered internally. The framing includes straight primary braces, and the floor beams have grooved stop-chamfers with small square joists. A later range to the right is a separate dwelling and is not of special interest. These cottages are included for their group value.
