Description

The County Branch Library, originally a corn hall, was built in 1854. It features a red brick structure with a white brick facade and pilaster strips. The roof is slated with overhanging boarded eaves, and the front gable is designed as a pediment with a moulded cornice. The gable facade has three bays, separated by brick pilasters with moulded caps, and clasping pilasters at the corners. The windows are inset sash types with glazing bars and flat brick arches. There is a central double-recessed arched doorway, which has been bricked up and replaced with a small mid-20th century window. The sides of the building have four bays, also divided by pilaster strips, with the third bay on the right altered to create a mid-20th century entrance. There are two white brick stacks.
