Description
Rose Cottages is a pair of cottages, likely built in the early 19th century, possibly as a remodelling of an earlier structure. The south end was partly rebuilt or extended in the late 20th century. The cottages are constructed of garden wall bond brick and feature a peg-tile roof that is half-hipped at both ends, along with brick stacks.
The cottages face east and overlook the road. The right-hand cottage has its front door positioned to the right, while the left-hand cottage has its front door towards the centre of the building. They are two storeys high, with a half-hipped roof and an axial stack to the right of centre, which has a 20th-century chimney shaft. There is also a projecting stack at the left end, also with a 20th-century shaft. The front is asymmetrical with three windows, and both cottages have early 19th-century panelled front doors topped with gabled porch hoods featuring curly pierced bargeboards. The ground floor has three 2-light cast iron casements with diamond panes and segmental arches. There are two gabled dormers to the right of centre, which are glazed with similar early 19th-century casements.
The interior has not been inspected but is reported not to retain exposed carpentry.
