Description

TQ 64 SE PADDOCK WOOD CHURCH ROAD

6/320 Nos 1 and 2 Rose Cottages

II

Pair of cottages. Probably early C19, perhaps a remodelling of an earlier building. Partly rebuilt or extended at the south end in the late C20. Garden wall bond brick; peg-tile roof, half-hipped at ends; brick stacks.

Plan: The cottages face east, overlooking the road. The right hand cottage has a front door to the right, the left hand cottage has a front door towards the centre of the range.

Exterior: 2 storeys. Roof half-hipped at ends; axial stack to right of centre with a C20 shaft; projecting left end stack with a C20 shaft. Asymmetrical 3-window front with early C19 panelled front doors with gabled porch hoods with curly pierced bargeboards. 3 ground floor 2-light cast iron casements with diamond panes and segmental arches. 2 gabled dormers to right of centre, glazed with similar early C19 casements.

Interior: Not inspected but said not to retain exposed carpentry.
