6/342 Barn immediately west of Catts Place

Barn. Probably C17 in origin, repaired and altered following a fire in the 1930s. Close-studded framed construction on brick and stone footings; peg- tile roof.

Plan: Roofed on a west east axis, parallel to Catts Place. 1930s entrance at west end. The east end of the building is lofted, with a separate room, entered through a doorway on the north side, on the ground floor with no through access to the main barn, the party wall 1930s. C20 greenhouse adjoins the south side.

Exterior: Partly lofted. The north elevation has a probably 1930s doorway at the left end with a window alongside and blocked windows in the framing to right of centre. Straight braces above the middle rail. The right (west) return has a 2-light 1930s window with diamond leaded panes above the 1930s door.

Interior: The wall framing preserves wall posts with formed jowls and incorporates re-used timbers.

Roof: The remains, much renewed, of a queen strut and clasped purlin roof, heavily charred over the left (east) end.
