Description
This building is a barn located immediately west of Catts Place, likely originating from the 17th century. It has been repaired and altered after a fire in the 1930s. The barn features close-studded framed construction set on brick and stone footings, topped with a peg-tile roof.
The barn is oriented with its roof running west to east, parallel to Catts Place. A 1930s entrance is located at the west end. The east end of the barn is lofted and includes a separate room accessed through a doorway on the north side, which does not connect to the main barn due to a party wall built in the 1930s. A 20th-century greenhouse is attached to the south side.
On the exterior, the barn is partly lofted. The north elevation features a doorway from the 1930s at the left end, accompanied by a window next to it and blocked windows in the framing to the right of center. There are straight braces above the middle rail. The right (west) return has a 2-light window from the 1930s with diamond leaded panes situated above the 1930s door.
Inside, the wall framing retains wall posts with formed jowls and includes re-used timbers. The roof structure, which has been largely renewed, consists of remnants of a queen strut and clasped purlin roof, heavily charred at the left (east) end.
