Description

Mile Oak Cottage is a small house, likely dating from the 18th century. It was originally two cottages. The ground floor is plastered brick, while the first floor is weatherboarded, with a portion of the right return tile-hung. The roof is covered in peg tiles, and there are brick stacks.

The house’s plan is double-depth, two rooms wide under a two-span roof. The front rooms are heated by an end stack, with service rooms to the rear. The rear left rooms have a later stack, and a central front door. An 1864 map indicates the house was originally divided centrally.

The exterior is two storeys and displays an asymmetrical two-window front. A gabled porch, with open timber returns, shelters a 19th-century panelled front door. Small casement windows with glazing bars are present, two on each floor. The roof is gabled at the ends and projects to an end stack.

The interior has not been inspected.

The cottage forms a group with three other listed buildings on the west side of the road.
