Description
Waterloo Cottages is a pair of cottages, likely built in the late 18th century, with some later alterations. They are constructed with a timber frame, featuring brick and woven infill, and are partly roughcast. The cottages have an asbestos slate roof and a central brick ridge stack. They are arranged in four bays, oriented east-north-east to south-south-west, and stand two storeys tall.
The south elevation displays a 2:2 window arrangement. The left cottage is roughcast and has a square mid-20th century light on the left side, along with a contemporary top vent window to its right. The ground floor includes a top vent casement and a two-light casement, along with an early 19th century ledged door. The right cottage features a mid-20th century two-light casement to the left of a four-pane window, and two ground floor casements, each with two lights. It also has an early 19th century ledged door. The exposed frame on the right cottage consists of four square panels high from the cill to the wall-plate.
Inside, the cottages have flagged stone floors, ceiling beams with run-out chamfer stops, and trusses with three posts above ties that support collars. The construction suggests that these cottages may have been built before 1815, despite their name.
