Description

Upper Ailey Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 16th century to the 17th century, with later alterations. It features a timber frame with brick infill and a roughcast finish, topped with roofs made of corrugated iron, Welsh slate, and asbestos slate. The building has a rectangular plan oriented east to west, with a cross-wing at the west end and stands two storeys tall.

The north elevation displays four windows on the upper floor, which are early 20th-century casements with two lights. The gable front to the right is unfenestrated and clad in corrugated iron. On the ground floor, there are three casements, each with three lights, and a glazed door located under a lean-to to the left of the right-hand window. To the right of the last window, there are stairs leading up to a ledged door on the first floor. Adjacent to the door is a small 12-pane window, and beneath it is a small two-light casement. The right-hand side of the building has a small area of exposed framing, while the rest of the main range is roughcast. The gable features wide corrugated iron doors and a weather-boarded lean-to attached to the right-hand return. Access to the interior was refused. The Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England refers to this building as Ailey Farm.
