Description
The Masons Arms is a farmhouse, originally a public house, dating from the late 16th to early 17th century, with alterations in later periods. It is timber-framed with plaster infill, and has brick extensions. The roof is covered with Welsh slate and sandstone slate, and is hipped to the north, with sandstone rubble and brick end stacks. The building has a rectangular plan, likely consisting of three structural bays aligned roughly north/south. The west elevation contains two windows, with 4-light casements from the early 19th century. The ground floor of the west elevation features two casements of three lights, and a mid-20th century oak door centrally positioned. The north elevation has a brick lean-to dating back to the late 19th century, above which are four carved brackets, possibly from the mid-20th century, situated at the tops of the main posts. The timber frame exhibits narrow studding with four panels between the cill and wall-plate. An outbuilding attached to the north-east, previously mentioned in records, has since been demolished. The interior of the building was inaccessible during a survey in November 1986.
