Description
Lower Ailey Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the 17th century, with later alterations. It features a timber-frame structure with plaster infill and a tiled roof supported by sandstone and brick stacks. The building has a T-plan layout, consisting of a main three-bay range that runs east to west, with an arm projecting northwards. It is one storey high with an attic.
On the south elevation, there are two windows and gabled dormers that contain 3-light early 20th-century casements. The ground floor features contemporary windows, including a pair of 2-light casements on either side of a glazed door on the left. There is a centrally located four-panelled door and to the right, there are a 4-light and a 3-light casement. A lean-to is present on the right-hand return. The frame consists of three panels high and includes angle struts from the wall-post to the wall-plate to the right of the center. The interior has not been inspected.
