Description

The Gardener’s Cottage is likely a house dating from the late 16th to 17th century, with later alterations. It is constructed of sandstone rubble with a plinth, featuring a timber-frame and plaster infill. The roof is tiled, and a brick stack is present. The building has a rectangular plan aligned roughly north/south, and consists of one storey and an attic.

The east elevation has three windows, with two-light casements dating to the mid-19th century. Above these are timber-framed gabled dormers, featuring curved struts above the ties. A projecting two-storey timber-framed porch is centrally positioned, with two rectangular panels in the upper part. The ground floor to the left of the porch has a catslide roof and two windows, while the window to the right has three lights. The porch has open sides with balusters and substantial front corner posts. A 19th-century ledged door is recessed within a door frame that extends from the cill to the wall-plate.
