Description

Gardener's Cottage is a house built around the late 18th century or early 19th century, with some alterations made in the late 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in English and Flemish garden wall bond, featuring some burnt headers and stretchers. The front wall is rendered, and there is a stone rubble plinth and rear wall. The roof is covered with clay plain tiles, has gabled ends, and includes some old crested ridge-tiles. Brick stacks are located at the gable ends, topped with white clay pots.

The house has a double-depth plan with a central entrance. The front features two rooms: a parlour on the right and a kitchen on the left, along with a small service room in an integral outshut at the rear. The exterior is two storeys high with an attic and presents a symmetrical two-window south front. The windows are late 19th-century two-light casements with glazing bars. The central doorway has a plank door and is sheltered by a wooden gabled porch with lattice sides. High in the roof are late 19th-century gabled dormers with two-light casements and glazing bars. There are small attic windows in the gable ends, also with casements.

At the rear, the roof extends down to low eaves in a catslide over the outshut. The rear wall is made of stone rubble and features a brick stack on the right, small casements, and a central plank door. Inside, the front rooms have boxed-in cross-beams, and the kitchen on the left includes a large fireplace. The interior joinery reportedly features ledged and braced doors.
