Description
Rose Cottage is a head gardener's cottage dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century, with some alterations. It is constructed of red brick in English garden wall bond and has slate roofs. The building has a linear plan in two parts, aligned on an east-west axis, with the dwelling making up the western half and a former cottage or stores to the east.
The house is double-depth and double-fronted, facing south. It has two storeys and three windows that are almost symmetrical. The central round-headed doorway features set-in quarter columns and a fanlight with radiating glazing bars. The windows are 4-pane sashed with raised sills and wedge lintels, and there are gable chimneys. The other portion of the building, which is likely older, faces north and has an arched doorway at ground floor level, along with casement windows on the first floor, arranged in a pattern of three, one, and three lights. There are also two similar windows on the first floor at the rear.
