Description
The Old Post Office is a cottage that likely dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with some later alterations. It features a timber frame with plaster and brick infill, and includes a small brick and weatherboarded extension. The roof is made of Welsh slate, and there is a large extruded sandstone rubble stack at the rear with a brick shaft. The building has a rectangular two-bay plan that is aligned north-west to south-east, with a central projection on the south-west side. It is one storey high with an attic.
The north-west elevation has a gable on the left and a low weatherboarded section with a stack on the right. The gable includes one attic window, which is a two-light mid-20th century casement. On the ground floor, there is a three-light casement to the right of the center and a ledged door, likely from the mid-19th century, to the left. The north-east elevation, facing the road, has two mid-20th century casements, each with two lights on the ground floor. The frame consists of three square panels high from the cill to the wall-plate. The interior was inaccessible during the last survey in November 1986. It is noted that the cottage is said to have once served as a post office.
