Description
Sycamore Cottages is a pair of cottages, likely built in the early 19th century, though they may be older. They are constructed with a framed design, featuring painted clay tiles on the ground floor and weatherboarding on the first floor, topped with a peg-tile roof and brick stacks.
The cottages have a single-depth, north-facing layout that is three rooms wide, with a possibly original rear right wing and additional service rooms at the back. The two rooms on the right likely share a central stack, while the left end room has its own stack. There are front doors located to the left of center and at the right end.
The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical front that has three windows, arranged regularly. There is a porch added to the left-hand door after 1956. The windows are 2- and 3-light timber casements from the 19th or early 20th century, featuring glazing bars. The roof is gable-ended, and the stacks have corbelled brick cornices.
At the time of the survey in 1988, there was no access to the interior, but features of interest may still exist, and an interior inspection could lead to a revision of the suggested date. A photograph from 1956 is available in the National Monuments Record.
