Description
A pair of cottages, likely dating from the 18th century, possibly the 17th century. They are situated on the north side of Maidstone Road in Pembury. The ground floor is constructed of English bond brick, with occasional burnt headers creating a banded effect, and some sandstone footings are visible. The upper portion is timber-framed and plastered, finished with peg-tile cladding to each end. Brick stacks and chimney shafts are present. The roof is covered in peg tiles.
The cottages were originally designed as a pair facing southeast. Each cottage has a single-room plan, mirroring the other. They feature central doorways and projecting gable-end stacks.
The cottages are two storeys high, with service outshots located to the rear.
The front elevation is symmetrical, featuring a three-window arrangement of 19th-century casement windows with glazing bars. Each doorway has a plain 19th-century plank door. The interiors have not been inspected.
These are an attractive and largely original example of farm labourer's cottages.
