Description
Nos 3 to 9 on Silent Street is a 16th-century timber-framed and plastered building featuring a jettied upper storey with exposed timber-framing. It has two large gables and a smaller crosswing at the northeast end. The upper storey juts out over the entire front, showcasing exposed joists, along with remnants of an embattled bressumer and a wall plate on the ground storey. The crosswing is supported by curved brackets with carved capitals and moulded shafts beneath the jetted upper storey. The building has two storeys and attics, with a four-window range featuring casements with lattice leaded lights in a 16th-century style. The attics are illuminated by windows in the gables. The ground storey includes 18th- and 19th-century double-hung sash windows with glazing bars and doors with fanlights, one of which is a six-panel door with a semi-circular fanlight. The roofs are tiled. Nos 1 to 9 form a group with Nos 19 to 47 on St Nicholas Street, as well as with Nos 6 and 8.
