Description
Sailors Rest is a notable late 17th to early 18th century red brick house located at No 2, St Peter's Street. The building features stucco quoins, a plinth, and an impressive carved wood cornice with modillions at the eaves. It stands two storeys tall with attics and has a seven-window range. The windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars, set in flush cased frames, and are topped with flat rubbed brick arches and stucco projecting keystones. The central section of the house, which includes the doorway and one window above, slightly projects forward and is flanked by narrow windows. The central window has a shaped soffit, while the first storey windows are adorned with brick aprons. A stucco band separates the two storeys. The entrance features a central six-panel door, with the upper panels glazed, accessed by stone steps. This door is framed by a wood doorcase with fluted and cabled columns on pedestals and topped with a pediment. The roof is tiled.
