Description
No. 45 and 45A on St Nicholas Street is a 17th-century timber-framed and plastered house that now functions as a shop. It is part of a range that includes No. 1 on Silent Street and has undergone alterations in the 18th century and later. The building has two storeys and features a two-window range with double-hung sash windows that have glazing bars, all set in flush cased frames. The ground floor boasts fine early 20th-century shopfronts, and the roofs are tiled.
Inside, there are chamfered ceiling beams and a single room adorned with extensive 18th-century raised and fielded panelling. Additionally, there is a significant 15th-century brick undercroft with groined vaults. Nos. 19 to 47 (odd) form a group with Nos. 1 to 9 (odd) on Silent Street.
