Description
Nos 57 to 61 on High Street in Billericay is a building originally constructed as a 16th-century hall house, though it has undergone significant alterations. The structure features cross wings at both the north and south ends, with a two-storey extension on the south end. The central block is one storey with attics. Nos 57 and 59 have 18th and 19th-century double-hung sash windows with glazing bars. The ground floor includes a modern shop front and one splayed bay. No 61 showcases exposed timber framing and retains two original two-light windows in the gable, which have diamond mullions. A panel above the north window indicates the date 1510. The windows here are 20th-century casements with lattice leaded lights, and the ground floor features two modern bays. The roof is tiled, and No 61 has a rebuilt chimney stack. Inside, there are exposed ceiling beams and joists.
