Description

No. 38 High Street is a late 16th-century timber-framed house that has undergone later additions and alterations in the 18th century. The exterior is weatherboarded and the building has two storeys with a two-window range featuring double-hung sashes with glazing bars and three-light windows on the first storey. The ground storey includes two 20th-century bow windows designed in an 18th-century style with glazing bars, along with a 20th-century shop front at the south end. The roof is tiled and features a moulded wood eaves cornice. Inside, there is a beam inscribed with the date 1577. This building is part of a group that includes Nos. 38 to 42, the Church of St Mary Magdalen, No. 46, and Nos. 57 to 63, along with Nos. 1 to 13 Chapel Street.
