Description
St Aubyns, located at No 3 and No 5 Chapel Street in Billericay, is a building originally constructed as a single timber-framed and pilastered house in the 16th to 17th century. The front of No 5 (St Aubyns) was updated in the 18th century. No 3 features a jettied upper storey with exposed joists and visible timber-framing. The building has two storeys and attics, with a three-window range of double-hung sashes that include glazing bars. The ground floor of No 3 has a 20th-century shop front designed in an 18th-century style, while No 5 (St Aubyns) has a 20th-century door with a fanlight, along with a doorcase that includes pilasters and an open dentilled pediment. The roofs are tiled and include one gabled dormer. The building is part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 13 (odd) and Nos 38 to 42 (even), as well as the Church of St Mary Magdalen. Additionally, Nos 46 and Nos 57 to 63 (odd) on High Street are also part of this group.
