Description
77 Grimwade Street is a building from the 18th century with a brick front featuring a parapet and a modillion cornice, likely built as part of a 17th-century house. The front is currently painted and the building has two storeys and attics. It has a five-window range with double-hung sashes that include glazing bars, all set in flush cased frames. The window arches are adorned with projecting keystones, and there is a brick band running between the storeys. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door topped by a semi-circular baroque fanlight, framed by a wooden doorcase with panelled reveals, panelled pilasters, and an open pediment supported by console brackets. The roof is tiled and was raised in the 18th century, featuring two pedimented dormers. At the rear, there is a gabled wing that includes a 17th-century carved bressumer at the gable.
Nos 77 to 83 form a group with No 68, and also with Nos 119 and 121 (Sorrel Horse Inn) and Nos 123 to 129 on Fore Street.
