Description
25 Bell Street is a building dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It stands three storeys tall and is constructed of painted brick. The façade features a dentil cornice and a parapet, with three bays. The centre bay is blocked on both upper floors. On the second floor, there are two square sash windows with architrave frames, which do not have glazing bars. The first floor has two sash windows, also with architrave frames, that are three panes wide, and there are painted brick voussoirs above these and the centre bay. The ground floor includes a four-light 19th-century shop window with a doorway to the north, both flanked by pilasters, and topped with a plain frieze and a moulded cornice. To the south is the house door, which is a five-panel door with the top panel cut away and glazed, featuring panelled reveals. The doorcase has fluted pilasters and moulded capitals, with a frieze that has a moulded string, which breaks forward over the pilasters, and a moulded cornice with a rectangular pediment that also breaks forward over the pilasters. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 20, 24 to 32, the Baptist Church, gate piers and flanking walls, and Town Mill with No 3 Middlebridge Street.
