Description
The buildings at 1 and 3 Middlebridge Street date from the 17th to 18th centuries, and are two storeys and an attic in height. The main part of the building is colourwashed brick, while the right-hand section incorporates a north wing along Newton Lane, constructed of timber framing and partly plastered. The roof is hipped and covered in old tiles, with one hipped dormer window over the right-hand end. There are five windows to the first floor, each a sash window with three panes, set within architrave frames. On the ground floor, there are two modern shop windows with wide plate-glass panes. These are flanked by plain pilasters at their outer ends. A flush-panelled door is located at the north end, with a glazed upper section, contained within an architrave frame. This is bordered by plain pilasters with shaped brackets above, and a flat, moulded hood that projects forward over the pilasters. Buildings 1 and 3 are historically grouped with numbers 20, 24 to 32 (consecutive), the Baptist Church, south-west walls and piers, and Bell Street.
