Description
30 Bell Street is a late 18th-century building that has been altered on the ground floor. It stands three storeys tall and is constructed of painted brick. A moulded string course runs beneath the second-floor windows, and there is a moulded and dentilled cornice at the eaves. The hipped slate roof features five sash windows on both upper floors, all of which retain their glazing bars. Each window is framed with stone architraves, set on stone sills with plain aprons below, and topped with deep rubbed voussoirs and fluted keystones. The ground floor has been modified in the late 19th century, featuring stucco work and 19th-century windows. There is a yard entrance on the southeast side. The house has a distinguished character and occupies an important position at the angle of the street. It is part of a group that includes Nos 20, 24 to 32, the Baptist Church, gate piers and flanking walls, and Town Mill with No 3 Middlebridge Street.
