Description
27 Bell Street is a 19th-century building that features a higher elevation than the adjacent No 25. It has a hipped slate roof and stands three stories tall with three bays. The structure is made of colourwashed brick and may have originally served as a warehouse.
On the second floor, there are two square sash windows with glazing bars set in reveals, flanking a larger central opening that is currently blocked and has wooden boarding. The first floor has three later-type sash windows in reveals, which lack glazing bars and have painted brick voussoirs.
The ground floor originally had three segmental or round-headed openings, but these have been replaced by a large shop front featuring plate glass that is canted towards a doorway at the north end. This window and doorway are flanked by panelled pilasters with shaped brackets and a moulded fascia above.
This building is part of a group that includes Nos 20, 24 to 32, the Baptist Church, gate piers and flanking walls, and Town Mill with No 3 Middlebridge Street.
