Description

The Chediston War Memorial is a Portland stone structure approximately 2.75 meters tall, located prominently in the churchyard next to the path leading to the Church of St Mary, which is a Grade I listed building, and near Vicarage Cottages, which is a Grade II listed building. The memorial features a plain equal-armed cross that rises from a simply moulded collar atop a gently tapering cross shaft. This shaft is set on a tapering square plinth with a two-stepped base. The main inscription on the front face of the plinth reads: "IN MEMORY OF THE MEN/ OF/ CHEDISTON/ WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES/ FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE/ GREAT WAR 1914 1918/ (9 NAMES)."
