Description
Farmhouse. It appears to have two distinct parts, the earlier dating from the 16th century or earlier on the left, with an early 17th-century range to the right, and a short cross wing set slightly forward. The construction is timber-framed and plastered, with some colourwashed brick casing and a pantiled roof. It is two storeys high. Most of the casement windows are 20th century replacements. The later section has a lobby entrance with a boarded door and a substantial internal stack located where it joins the earlier range. The upper part of this stack was rebuilt in the mid-20th century and incorporates terracotta fleurs-de-lys, reportedly from Chediston Hall. The cross wing has ovolo-moulded ceiling beams on the ground floor, and on the first floor, some good exposed timber framing. One first-floor room features a blocked fireplace with a moulded arch and a good original door set within a heavy doorframe. The earlier part of the house appears to be fragmentary.
