Description

Ash Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with a 19th-century brick service addition to the north that forms an L-shaped plan. The building is timber framed, mostly plastered, but features some pebbledash render and brick casing. The right side has a red brick crowstepped gable end. The roof is partly covered with plain tiles and partly with pantiles, while the front slope has mid-20th-century concrete tiles. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has two windows, which are 18th-century 3-light and 4-light mullion and transom casements. At the rear, there is a notable square-leaded window of similar age. The service wing has a 20th-century entrance door. Inside, there is a heavy internal stack at the junction with the service wing. The crowstepped gable end features symmetrically placed pairs of blocked windows at three levels, with remnants of moulded brick and stuccoed pediments, although the ground floor pediment is now missing. There are also traces of rusticated stucco surrounds and an integral stack. One ground floor room includes a good ovolo-moulded beam and a joist ceiling.
