Description

Herne Hill Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with a later extension on the left and alterations made in the late 19th century. The core of the building is timber framed, while the facade of the original range is covered in white brick, featuring brick pilasters between the bays. The later extension is finished in colourwashed red brick, with brick casing on the gable ends and pebbledash render at the rear. The roof is covered with pantiles and the building has two storeys and an attic, originally designed in a three-cell form.

There are four windows on the front, which are 19th-century three-light large-paned mullion and transom casements set under segmental arches. At the rear, there are two original mullioned windows at ground floor level. The farmhouse has three doorways, one of which features an enclosed conservatory-style porch. A full-width lean-to verandah has been altered over time. There is also one flat-roofed dormer. Inside, there is a heavy internal stack along with additional internal and gable end stacks to the left. One ground floor room displays chamfered joists and moulded storey posts, while there is some panelling on the first floor.
