Description
16 and 18 Park Lane is a pair of houses that have been converted into a single dwelling. They date from the early 17th century and were refronted in the late 18th century. The property was converted into one house in the late 19th century and has had extensions added in the 20th century. The structure features a timber frame with a rendered and colourwashed brick facade and a pantile roof with rebuilt brick end stacks.
The exterior consists of a two-storey front with two windows, set on a moulded plinth that is continuous with the adjacent houses at No. 14 and No. 20. The off-centre panelled doors are flanked by a small casement window. At each end of the building are original 5-light cross casements with ovolo-moulded mullions, which are topped by late 19th-century label-stopped hoodmoulds. There are two similar original windows on the first floor that do not have hoodmoulds. The facade features a raised first floor band and a saw-tooth eaves cornice. The rear of the building has a mix of 19th and 20th-century casement windows.
Inside, there is a winder staircase beside each stack and a wide inglenook fireplace at the left end. The bridging beams are uniformly of sunk-quadrant section, with jewelled tongue stops. The roof structure includes principals, clasped purlins, and two tiers of butt purlins.
