Description
Varley House is a pair of houses that have been converted into a single dwelling, dating from the early 18th century and remodelled in the late 18th century. The building is constructed of painted brick and features a slate roof with brick stacks, including an external stack at the left end and one on the ridge to the right of centre.
The exterior consists of two storeys and an attic, with a three-window front set on a moulded plinth. On the ground floor, there are three windows alternating with two doors. The left door is six-panelled, framed by a doorcase with Gothic panelling and panelled reveals. The right door is also six-panelled, with the upper two panels glazed. Both doors are topped with hoods supported by consoles. The centre window is a tripartite sash with glazing bars arranged in the pattern of 1/2, 3/6, 1/2, while the outer windows are 3/6 unhorned sashes. There is a platband at the first floor, which features three 6/6 unhorned sashes under hoodmoulds with label stops. The building is finished with a dentilled eaves cornice. The interior has not been inspected.
