Description
No. 29 Fore Street is a house that was formerly a public house, dating from the 16th century and the mid-19th century. The building is part two storeys and part two storeys with attics. It has a timber-framed core that is encased in colour-washed brick, with a roof that features clay pantiles in some areas and double Roman tiles in others. There is an internal chimney stack with a plain red brick shaft.
The street-facing side has a two-window range, with sashes in flush frames; the upper floor features small-paned windows, while the ground floor windows have two vertical bars. The entrance has a six-panelled fielded door, with the top two panels glazed. On the side of the building, there is a brick dentil cornice in part and one dormer window. The oldest section of the building is a two-bay timber-framed range that is set at right angles to the street, with the framing exposed on the interior. The front of the building was enlarged to its current width around 1850, and there are additional extensions at the rear.
