Description
Three shops with living accommodation above, dating from the late 18th century and altered in the 19th century. The building is constructed of rendered and colourwashed brick, with slate roofs, and a pantiled rear wing to number 18A. Numbers 17 and 18 are three storeys high, with a five-window front. Number 17 has an early 20th-century four-panelled door leading to the upper floors, and a mid-20th-century plate-glass display window with a central entrance defined by panelled pilasters. Number 18 features an early 20th-century bowed plate-glass display window to the right of a recessed glazed door and a further four-panelled door leading to accommodation. The first floor has five 6/6 sashes under rendered drip mouldings, while the second floor also has five 3/3 sashes with matching drip mouldings. The second floor was raised in the mid-19th century and has a parapet concealing a flat roof. An internal gable-end stack is situated to the east. Number 18A is three storeys high with a single-window front. It has a late 20th-century plate-glass display window on the ground floor and mid-20th-century two-light casements to each floor above, also with rendered drip mouldings, beneath a hipped roof. The interiors of numbers 17 and 18 have been opened into single retail sales areas; the upper floors were not inspected. The ground floor of number 18A has partial timber framing, representing the remains of an earlier structure, otherwise rebuilt. The remainder of the ground floor is a single retail area. The first floor contains one blocked window in the west wall.
