Description
A terrace of three shops with living accommodation above, likely dating from the 18th century, and subsequently altered. The front is rendered, with the left return partially slate-hung; it has a slate roof, gabled at the ends, and stacks with rendered shafts topped with crested chimney pots. A rear left corner stack has an old brick shaft. The three buildings adjoin one another, with a pedestrian passage between the two left-hand properties.
The building is three storeys high, with a three-window front. It features a moulded eaves cornice. A paved passage leads to the rear. Number 57, on the left, has a shop front from the 1920s, featuring plate-glass windows with timber standards and a timber fascia. Number 58 retains a carved console and a fascia with cornice and a dentil frieze. Number 59 has a shop front from the 1940s, with slender columnar standards and capitals. The shop front’s door has a low panel and overlight with geometric glazing bars. Inside the shop window of Number 59 are reeded internal cast-iron columns with capitals. The first floor has three 16-pane sash windows with moulded architraves. Number 59's first-floor window has been reglazed as a 2-light casement with Edwardian stained glass. Similar windows and sashes are found on the second floor, although Number 59 is missing some glazing bars.
The ground floors have been altered for shop use; features of interest may remain on the upper floors.
