Description

17 High Street is a late 19th or early 20th century shop and dwelling, originally comprising two dwellings of unequal size. The building is constructed of brick, with a slate roof. It is three storeys high, with a five-window frontage. Number 17 has a two-window range, with a doorway to the right. Number 18 has a central entrance. The upper floor has flush framed 12-pane sash windows, with 9-pane sashes to the attic storey. The ground floor has tripartite sash windows, all with flat arched gauged brick heads. Number 17 retains its original doorway with a canopy hood; a shop front has modified the arrangement to the left, but the doorway alongside the shop appears to be early 19th century and has a case with a bracketed entablature. The shop front itself has a central doorway, windows divided by slim mullions and a transom, and a fascia carried on brackets. A dentilled eaves band is present. Axial stacks were raised during the 19th century. A coped gable is visible to the left.
