Description

18 High Street is a late 19th or early 20th century shop building, originally comprising two dwellings of unequal size. The building is constructed of brick, with a slate roof. It is three storeys high and has a five-window facade, divided into a two-window range for No. 17 and a three-window range for No. 18. The upper floor windows are 12-pane sashes, with 9-pane sashes in the attic, while the ground floor has tripartite sash windows. All ground floor windows have flat arched, gauged brick heads. No. 17 retains its original doorway with a canopy hood, although a shop front has modified the arrangement to the left. The doorway alongside the shop appears to be from the early 19th century and features a case with a bracketed entablature. The shop front itself has a central doorway, windows divided by slim mullions and a transom, and a fascia supported by brackets. A dentilled eaves band is present. Axial stacks were raised during the 19th century. A coped gable is visible to the left.
