6/109 Garden walls and gate piers immediately south-west of Gowthorpe Manor House q.v. 6/108

Garden walls and gate piers, C16-C18, brick and flint. Walls enclosing garden c.30 x 35m.. Gateway to south of 2 large rusticated brick piers with overhanging caps having small stone ball finials. Wall to west of gate piers partly of whole flint to external face; brick in irregular bond to internal face; 2 shaped brick gables (former attached buildings lost). Wall to east of gate piers with rebuilt external face; internal face of C18 brick in Flemish bond. Interior faces of return walls to west and east of brick, both with 4 small segmental headed recesses; external face to east return of English garden wall bond, small semi-circular headed doorway to north; external face to west return of broken flint, erratics and some limestone, with later brick to upper courses; wide attached plinth to north of C17 brick. Enclosing wall to north of brick to internal face and broken flint with re-used dressed limestone to external face; pergola of 4 square columns of stone dressed flint.
