Description

The Swardeston War Memorial is a First World War memorial, erected around 1920. It is made of rock-faced granite and is located on a small green next to the lych gate at the entrance to the Church of St Mary. The memorial features a single-step base, a roughly trapezoidal plinth, and a tall shaft that tapers in rectangular section to a Celtic wheel-head cross. The cross has a relief carving of a sword with its blade pointing downwards. The east face of the plinth is inscribed with the words "PRO PATRIA," followed by names and the dates "1914 - 1919."
