Description
This is a milestone from the late 18th century, made of limestone. It has a wedge shape with a rounded top, standing 1 meter high and tapering from 12 centimeters to 30 centimeters. The narrow edge is inscribed with "SWARDESTON," and there are recessed panels across its full width that read "NORWICH/4/MILES" and "NEW BUCKENHAM/11/MILES." Above each panel, there is a small square indent with a rivet. The road where this milestone is located was turnpiked in 1772.
