Description

Milestone No 6, located on the south side of Norwich Road in Hethersett, is a late 18th century milestone for the Norwich and Thetford Turnpike Trust. Made of limestone, it is wedge-shaped and stands 68 cm high, tapering from 12 cm at the base to 29 cm at the top. The milestone features recessed panels that are inscribed with "NORWICH / 6 / MILES" and "THETFORD / 23 / MILES." The road was turnpiked in 1767.
