Description

This is a milestone located on Common Road in New Buckenham, dating from the late 18th century. It is made of limestone and has a wedge shape with a rounded top, standing about 1 metre tall. Each side features a recessed full-width panel that is inscribed with "NORWICH 15 MILES" and "ATTLEBORO 5 MILES" in uppercase sans-serif letters. Above these panels, there is a square recessed indent with the remains of a rivet at the center. The Norwich New Buckenham Road was turnpiked in 1772.
